I am San Diego, California based artist Brian Varga. I have independently practiced graphic design for over 10 years.

Self-taught, I received my education in the school of hard-knocks in a world before ubiquitous graphic design programs. With time, crawling though the trenches of the freelance battlefield, I developed a style that focuses on simplicity and sophistication as a way to rise above the noise.

I work at the nexus of minimalism and efficiency. In this space, I shed the excesses of illustration, exposing the roots of visual communication. These constraints allow me to reveal the core of the idea I am trying to express and seek the most direct route to it. My goal is to communicate a client’s message in the most concise yet visually stimulating form possible. My designs are inspired by nature and the overlooked wonders of everyday life, meant to incite a visceral reaction of concurrent familiarity and unexplored beauty.

As a musician, most of my first clients were other musicians and gig promoters. Over the course of my career, mainstream tastes have changed to accept ever-more unique aesthetics and my client base has expanded beyond this niche into the corporate realm. However, some of my greatest pleasure still comes from creating record cover art and promotional fliers supporting the dreams of my fellow artists. These projects give me the flexibility and freedom to explore the creative corners of my mind and drive toward the bleeding edge of my abilities.
